Sidmouth - a walker's paradise

Sidmouth is ideally situated in the centre of a walker’s paradise, and the Bedford Hotel Sidmouth is the perfect place to start and finish your walking holiday.

As well as the stunning 95-mile long Jurassic coastline, there are numerous Thomas Hardy Trails along with the Exe Estuary, Axe Estuary, East Devon Way and many, many other circular walks for you to enjoy.

In addition to the many walks, the area is rich in nature reserves and we even allow dogs, so you can bring along your four-legged friend. And when you return from a day exploring let us hang up your coats, store your boots while you put your feet up, relax and have a well-earned rest.

PLAN YOUR WALK

Bedford Hotel to Ladram Bay (round trip)

 

This walk visits a beautiful secluded bay and the wonderful sea stacks at Ladram Bay on the Jurassic Coast. It’s a short walk of just under 3 miles from the town of Sidmouth, but there is a fair climb to Peak Hill and High Peak which stands at a height of 157 metres (515 ft). From the high points there are stunning views down the coast in both directions.

Sidmouth to Beer

 

This walk follows a section of the wonderful Jurassic Coast from Sidmouth to the village of Beer in Devon. It’s a popular coastal walk running for about 8 miles along an undulating path. There’s lovely cliff top views, attractive beaches and interesting geological features to see on the path. Also look out for Exmoor Ponies on the way!

 

If you’re looking for some more walking adventure, you can extend your trip to and continue along the coast path to Seaton where you can pick up the Lyme Regis to Seaton Undercliff Walk.

 

Otter Valley Wildlife Walk

 

An easy stroll through the breathtakingly beautiful Lower Otter Valley with its wonderful diversity of wildlife. The valley is managed as a nature reserve, and there are hides and viewing platforms along the river, as well as an abundance of information en route.

Look out for dragonflies and kingfishers, moths and butterflies, frogs and fish, ducks and waders. An especially good walk for younger children, who will love the abundance of wildlife and the many viewing places.

A pleasure in autumn, when the leaves start to turn and the bushes are alive with birds after the berries, and migrant birds start to gather at the mouth of the river.
